The food bank offers Poverello clients quality food while respecting their right to privacy and maintaining their dignity. The food bank services Broward county residents who are living with HIV/AIDS. Any Broward county HIV positive resident is able to utilize the center’s services.In order to receive services, clients must comply with and complete the following procedures. The first step is to meet with a Poverello Intake Manager who will provide the necessary information for the enrollment process. A referral from a Ryan White Case Manager is needed, as well as, a letter from a primary care doctor stating that the individual seeking Poverello services is HIV positive and is in primary care. In addition, the individual will need to provide a picture ID and proof of income. Once enrolled in the system, the Poverello Center uses client numbers rather than personal names in order to maintain client confidentiality. At this point, the enrollment process is complete.
Clients visit the food bank once a week to receive their supply of food which includes 21 meals and snacks. Upon arrival at the food bank for their weekly visit, the clients are given a menu from which they chose seven entrees, type of bread, cereal and sweets. The food box provided by the Poverello Center includes a variety of foods with the necessary nutrients essential for clients to control body weight while preserving the integrity of lean body mass and satisfying hunger. |
