As tropical depressions form east of our shores, we’ve teamed up with Publix and Feeding South Florida to help our program participants get ready for any potential impact. During planning meetings, we were asked ‘what do your people need?’ We responded with ready to eat foods and water so they can be prepared for any eventuality.

Through the generous donation of time 50 volunteers brought, our Publix Volunteer Takeover of Poverello’s Eat Well Center for Hurricane Preparedness was a success. Nearly 5,000 of our registered participants were notified via our Athena Cares electonic medical record. Wilton Manors Police Department deployed off duty officers to direct traffic and the response from our program participants was enormous. All food that Feeding South Florida brought on their 26 foot truck was distributed by the Publix volunteers.

08/31/2019 – Dorian Update: As Hurricane Dorian approaches, our staff and volunteers are open making sure that our program participants have food and supermarket gift cards to continue to prepare for the storm. Our pre-orders of post storm foods are already made and our generator is in place for use if necessary to safeguard our frozen foods.

If you’d like to donate and designate funds for the benefit of potential victims of hurricane Dorian, we honor those requests through either direct provision of serivces to our clients or through partnering with other organizations in affected areas to bring direct relief to them in the aftermath of the storm.
